My name is Elsie Gowdy and I’m nearly 2! I live in Kent with my Mum, dad, brother and sister. I am a strong willed toddler who knows what she wants. I also enjoy swimming and watching Peppa Pig. I like all the animals but my favourites are the horses!
My pony is a cheeky Welsh Section A called Pixie. She is 14 years old and her show name is “Miss Rose Bud.” I also ride the other bigger horses; Rosie, Jazz and Tiggy. They are all very different but are a happy herd. Pixie is a new addition and has always been a lead rein pony but we are going to learn and progress together.
My first lesson was to keep my hat on when riding her – I learnt that very quickly. We have just started trotting! Thanks to the Inky Dinky I don’t slip off the side, even if my head does bounce around!
My Name is Noah; I am a big two years old. Santa delivered my Inky Dinky Saddle last Christmas and since then myself and Tiny have been off on our Adventures near and far.
I love playing with my big car, tractor and trailer around the yard. Tiny helps too!!
Tell me a little about your pony, or the pony you ride?
Tiny is my Shetland pony and he has a big fan club. Tiny has been a part of many families bringing huge joy to all. He has done therapeutic riding and visits bringing much joy to everybody who meets him. I ride alongside my Daddy who has big Irish Draught Horses. Daddy is on the Garda Mounted Unit so one day maybe myself and Tiny might join him.
I love visiting my friends on Tiny, going to the beach and throughout the summer have been attending lead rein classes. My Bunny (Comforter) joins me in the ring because I am by far the youngest in the classes. This winter I am looking forward to the kids Hunts and meeting all the hounds.
What has been hard for you to learn so far with riding?
I do not like when Mammy or Daddy hold me on the Saddle. I’m a big boy now so my balance is much better and do not need anybody holding me in place!
What is your favorite thing about riding?
I love trotting Tiny; I keep saying “Again” “Again” to Mammy and Daddy
What do you want to achieve with your riding?
I am looking forward to learning new things and most importantly to have FUN FUN FUN!!!
What do you want to do when you grow up?
I love my building blocks, tractors and most importantly playing in the muck and dirt in the yard. A farmer maybe!!
What is your favourite thing about your pony or the pony you ride?
Both myself and Tiny love chocolate buttons, especially when we're out and about Mammy and Daddy keep a supply in their pockets.
Everywhere we go people say how cute we are together. Young and old stop and smile!!
"If I didn't ride, I would be caught pulling flowers up that have been planted much to Mammy and daddy's annoyance ha ha ha"
Why do you like your Inky Dinky Saddle?
I feel very safe and secure in my Inky Dinky Saddle. As I am only two years old I require good back support and I get this in the saddle.
What advice would you give to other Inky Dinky riders?
Tiny is a Shetland and has a round belly in the summer months!! However, once the weight is off him the saddle fits better. We also use a non-slip pad which is great to prevent slipping.

In this blog, we’ll take you through some of the best locations across the UK to take your family on a horse riding holiday. You could either introduce children to horse riding with a tour, or experienced trekkers can find great places to stay with their own horses.
Here’s our top 5 locations across the UK for family horse trekking holidays.
As one of the UKs most beloved UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the Brecon Beacons make a great holiday destination regardless of horse-riding opportunities.
That being said, the Brecon’s are home to 600 miles of bridle paths.
The Brecon Beacons are home to endless beautiful British landscapes, horse riding schools, and thriving wildlife. As well as B&Bs, you’ll find plenty of self-catering facilities and horse trailer-friendly accommodation.
Dartmoor has a lot to offer when it comes to family horse riding holidays. Dartmoor is already popular among families due to its scenic landscapes, crisp fresh air, and variety of excellent activities and accommodation.
Dartmoor is also home to a number of well-established and experienced riding schools such as Liberty Trails, which give you access to many different trails, designed for a variety different skill level.
As a national park with vast moorland in Devon, the location offers plenty of activities which you can do independently or at places like the River Dart County Park, and Babeny Farm Stables.
You and your family will never run out of things to do in the Peak District.
Try guided horse riding at Matlock Farm Park Riding School, or if you’re transporting your own horses, follow the 65 miles of rider-dedicated land the Peaks have to offer.

Norfolk has a lot to offer. From beautiful skylines, adventure parks and zoos, to traditional English houses and gardens.
Nonetheless, Norfolk is also a great location for a family horse riding holiday for you and your loved ones.
Norfolk offers wonderful scenery and beaches with horse-friendly beaches such as Holkham Bay, which is home to miles of untouched sand and specific parking for horse trailers.

Especially if you’re transporting your own horses to your holiday destination, make sure you find some trailer-friendly accommodation. Make sure you have all the insurance, transportation and equipment you need in advance.
Choosing a Family Horse Riding trip in the UK will be an experience for the whole family to remember.
]]>I am 2 years old and have been riding pony’s all my life I got my first pony CJ just after my 1st birthday and we have been on so many adventures together. Mummy says I am a sassy little diva when I want to be and I know how to get everyone around my little finger. I live with my mummy Daddy and our dog Arlo. My daddy works away so that usually means me and mummy have lots of extra time to play ponies.
When I am not getting muddy down at the farm I like to go dancing where I do some tap, ballet and acro. My pony is called CJ and I love him very much. He is a very loving pony and always tries his best to please me and mummy. Sometimes he can be a bit cheeky and not want to go into his stable and it’s very funny watching mummy try to drag him into it, in the end mummy has to make him walk backwards so he doesn’t notice he is in it. He doesn’t do it very often though. Our favourite thing to do together is go on lots of hacks and explore the fields. A few months ago cj got a little scared at something when I was trotting and jumped sideways but my Inky Dinky kept me nice and safe. It did scare me though and it is only very recently that I have done some trotting again and I love it. CJ is 12 years old and a palomino section A. CJ has a best friend called George. I have also recently started riding a pony called Leo and we did our first show together the other week and we came 1st as where me and mummy live I have to be a little older before I can show CJ. I will be doing some winter shows with Leo and I am very excited.
What has been hard for you to learn so far with riding? The hardest thing for me so far is my trotting. I am very good at my up downs in walk but I haven’t quite mastered them in trot yet but mummy says I will pick it up very soon.
What is your favourite thing about riding? My favourite thing about riding is being able to go the beach all the time and going blackberry picking on some of our hacks.
What do you want to achieve with your riding? I would like to be confident enough to do some trotting by myself with Cj on the lunge.
What do you want to do when you grow up? ‘When I grow up I want to be Leo’!
What is your favourite thing about your pony or the pony you ride? My favourite thing about Cj is how gentle he is. Every morning he will come trotting to the gate as soon as he sees me and I love that. My favourite thing about Leo is that he looks like spirit and is also very gentle.
What do you think you would do if you didn’t ride? If I didn’t ride I would go for lots of walks and do lots more dancing
Why do you like your Inky Dinky Saddle? I love my inky dinky saddle because it has a pretty heart on it and a nice strap for me to hold onto. Mummy says she loves the inky dinky saddle because we can now go in hacks by ourselves without having to try and find someone to walk next to me whilst mummy leads CJ. We both love how secure and safe I am in my Inky Dinky.
What advice would you give to other Inky Dinky riders? When we first got our inky dinky my legs weren’t long enough for the stirrups so mummy bought some nylon dog collars with no holes in and they were really good as stirrup leathers as they could be any length.
We love the inky dinky saddle and how versatile it is that it will fit on Cj but it would also fit on big Archie too who is a shire at our stables!

I very much enjoy being outdoors, not just with the ponies and at the yard but also out exploring! I love being creative, my mummy, and playing with my cousins (well, when we can and lock down is eased).
I really love all animals and enjoy taking our dog for a walk with my grandad and dad, and also going fishing with them.
I’m (currently) an only child but my mummy says that the ponies are like her children too!
I’m very lucky and have two ponies.
Bubbles is and 8 year old piebald show pony standing at 12hh. My mummy has owned Bubbles since he was a yearling and has always had him earmarked for me! Bubbles is a very sweet and loving pony but can be quirky at times! He enjoys doing a bit of everything including showing, dressage and hacking! But he most enjoys jumping!
We were very lucky at the end of last year to be given our beautiful Cruise to have on loan to help teach me the ropes of riding from a friend! Cruise is just 7hh of pure character, and although still young at rising 5 years old, he looks after me so well! He is a gorgeous skewbald, Falabella x Shetland!
We really enjoy going out hacking all through the woods and around the countryside.
We are hoping to take both the ponies out to some shows when restrictions ease, however covid hasn’t stopped up getting all spruced up in our show gear, getting the ponies bathed and plaited for some ‘at home showing’ which we all enjoyed and brought home some superb rosettes!
My mummy also has a lovely traditional cob called Dolly, who she does dressage with. The three of our ponies get on so well! We call them the Three Musketeers, as they are always together (even when they are getting in to mischief).
My favourite thing about riding is that I get to be outdoors and we get to go exploring around the beautiful grounds our yard sits in. I quite often get off half way through a ride, especially when we are I the woods to go for a little explore on foot, and when the weather is nice, mummy and daddy bring a picnic and we all sit and have a bit of lunch before heading off to finish our ride!
We are just starting to learn our ‘ups and downs’ for trotting which is very hard!
Although thankfully the support of my Inky Dinky Saddle means that I can use my arms to support my self when trying to find the rhythm.
In time we would love to carry on getting out competing in all spheres, including showing, a bit of showjumping and cross country but also to do some pleasure rides with my friends. Although I would just like to improve my riding and carry on learning and know this will be lots of fun.
When I grow up I would love to be an engineer!
I take a keen interest in how things are put together and how they work! Any time my grandad has his tool kit out mending/changing and putting together mechanical things I can’t help but get involved!
My favourite thing about both my ponies is that they are both very fast!!!!
Trotting is my favourite and I can’t help but giggle!! Luckily for me I have my Inky Dinky Saddle which keeps me super safe and secure whilst I’m trying to learn all the gaits. Without this my mummy would struggle to take me out for rides on our own as she would struggle to hold the ponies and also hold on to me too! Especially with Bubbles and his little quirks, it just means she knows I’ll be stable in the saddle if he does have a ‘moment’ as we call it.
One of the best things about my Inky Dinky saddle is that it fits almost any pony or horse!
This means I get to, on occasion, have a ride on my mummy’s dressage horse and she knows I’ll be safe and secure in the saddle whilst we have fun!
We also love that as I grow and develops my riding skills, my mummy can adjust the blocks on the saddle to accommodate me, not only my size but my ability to ride and eventually it will have no blocks on and I can use it as a riding pad!
We can’t wait for summer to go out and enjoy our ponies with our lovely Inky Dinky saddle!

Allowing children to feel confident and enjoy riding horses on our kids’ saddles is one of our passions, so we were keen to help out in any way we could.
A sponsored ride meant that not only could the little ones get out and about on their Inky Dinky Saddles, but we could also raise some serious money for charity!
With no big kids charging around it was very peaceful and enjoyable with families walking their toddlers around the grounds of Bilsington Manor, through the woods, fields, up and down the hills on a Teddy bear hunt. It was great to see so many happy little horse riders on their children’s saddles!
The young Inky Dinky riders raised over £17,634 for the Kent and Sussex Air Ambulance!
Future Events
Because of this success, at Inky Dinky Saddles we are setting up a foundation to help disabled children below the age of 16 and their families to help get out and enjoy the outdoors, whether that be through sport such as riding or just getting to enjoy the outdoor environment.
We are happy and excited to announce that we will be running sponsored rides around the country next year, so everyone can get to enjoy them!

We’re really happy for Irving, because his mum shared with us that he has Spina Bifida which means his balance is impaired and he has no feeling or movement from the knee down. She attributes his horse riding confidence to the Inky Dinky saddle, which is incredibly humbling, and we’re sure Irving’s natural talent contributed immensely to his lead rein win. Our children’s saddles support the back and abdomen of the young rider, so there is no need for the legs to grip the pony or horse, making it easy to ride unsupported. Congratulations Irving, we hope your reign of competition successes continues!
Another beautiful success story was passed onto us from the happy mum of Delilah in Essex. Her riding school funded an Inky Dinky saddle, which we were more than happy to provide, to this fab young rider with cerebral palsy. Delilah didn’t need to be supported by her parents and she could ride freely whilst being lead on a rein, and her mum told us that the difference in her experience and enjoyment was amazing. We hope to see much more of Delilah enjoying her children’s saddle.
Hunting meets can play a huge activity in many countryside communities, and it’s usually the case that the little ones have to stay at home or watch from the side. Well not anymore!
We’ve been sent a number of stories where Inky Dinky Saddles have enabled children to experience their first ever hunting meets on horseback. Our children’s saddles have allowed littluns in the hunting community feel immersed in the bustle of hunting meets, whilst feeling fully supported, secure and independent on their pony.
We’re delighted when we see our little customers getting out and about on their new Inky Dinky saddles. We’re thrilled to see some of you trying out different terrains, and the kids looking as comfortable and enthusiastic as ever! The Inky Dinky saddles ensure security on your child’s riding experience even on the most uneven of rural hacks! For any track, be it hilly, rocky or muddy, an Inky Dinky saddle will maintain stability and safety for your child’s ride.
Take a look at little Jessica riding in the snow as part of the Boxing Day New Forest Point to Point race day. The dreary weather conditions didn’t stop her from feeling secure and excited to get dressed up and out riding her pony, and what a natural she looks!
This is little Bella, who went on the Beltane Common Ride in Scotland! Here she is braving a stream with the biggest smile on her face, feet in the stirrups, and hands holding the Inky Dinky saddle strap whilst her pony is lead through the water. Even in water, our children’s saddle helps your little one to keep balance, so they can securely enjoy all of the riding opportunities that their parents and older siblings do too.
It isn’t just the little riders on home soil that we’re helping. We’ve got horse riding youngsters from New Zealand, America and Hong Kong all enjoying getting out and about on their horses, feeling safe and secure during the process with one of our children’s saddles.
We love to hear about the adventures and competitions you and your family get up to on our horse riding saddles for children. Thank you for sharing your stories and adventures with us, and as always we’re very grateful to be a part of every child’s horse riding journey. Send us any pictures you may have and you could be featured on our social media! Check out our Facebook for more Inky Dinky videos and pictures, and order your saddle online today.

Gauge their interest by taking them with you to see your horse, or a horse that you ride at the local stables, or by taking them to a local farm or field that has them. Acquaint them with the horse slowly, so you don’t overwhelm or scare them, and impress on them that they are gentle and will respect their riders and carers when they too are shown empathy.
If they fall in love with horses, as we’re sure they will, find some local children’s horse riding lessons, either private or group sessions. These lessons will be nice and slow, simply introducing your children to the ponies they’ll be eventually riding and getting them used to being around the animals. Children’s horse riding lessons are a great way of encouraging confidence from an early age, teaching your children empathy for the animal, and also encouraging a healthy lifestyle of fun exercise as they continue to grow.
Always put safety first. Even though they may only be riding a Shetland pony, which to you may seem small and easy, to them this is still a new and independent animal. Buying a children’s saddle ensures that their back will be properly supported and they will be able to ride their pony without the otherwise necessary support of an adult holding them up. We have children’s saddles for sale that allow for even small children to ride ponies without the need for an adult to be holding them upright, building independence and confidence from an early age.
In order to keep your child invested and respectful of horse riding as an activity and the horse as a partner to this, make sure you teach them the importance of caring for their pony and being kind to it. Empathetic pony care is crucial to ensuring the continued respect and compliance of your pony, and it will also teach your child to think outside of themselves and take responsibility for another living being.
If your child is interested in horse and pony riding, you need a secure pony saddle for children that will allow your child the independence and safety they need to enjoy the experience. Contact the team at Inky Dinky Saddles today to find out more about our children’s pony saddles, designed for the best support and safety in mind.

At Inky Dinky Saddles, our children's saddles are handmade by expert craftsmen to enable children of all ages and all sizes to enjoy independent horse riding. We are proud to have supplied thousands of handmade children’s saddles since 2006 and amongst our ever-growing pool of happy customers are a great number of fantastic disabled children.
Building Confidence with Inky Dinky Saddles
Without doubt, horse riding is a brilliant medium for children of all ages and all abilities to gain confidence. For disabled children, it could not be clearer. Not only is their feeling comfortable around an animal much larger than they are a fantastic achievement, seating in the specially designed children’s saddle, they can gain greater confidence in being totally independent on the horse. That is because Inky Dinky Saddles are designed in such a way that kids, no matter their age, are secure in their saddle and require no assistance from adults.
Developing Core Strength with Inky Dinky Saddles
For disabled children learning to ride horses with the Inky Dinky Saddle, that joyful development of confidence is by no means the only benefit. Specially designed so that your child will not have to grip with their legs, our saddles for kids enable them to relax and find a good, natural posture.
For children with disabilities such as cerebral palsy, there is plentiful research proving the fantastic improvements seen in their core strength, coordination, balance and overall physical health.
Guaranteed Safety in the Saddle
For children with disabilities ranging from blindness to Down’s syndrome a feeling of safety and security is really important to their comfort and happiness. This is exactly what the Inky Dinky Saddles offer. As the pommel and cantle can be curved snugly around the child’s legs they do not move backwards/ forwards or sideways. This also helps the continued development of core strength and posture, something many disabled children struggle with.
One of Many Success Stories
Over the years, we have had the joy of hearing back from parents and carers who have purchased an Inky Dinky Saddle for their disabled child. We wanted to share one with you here. One of our customers was a child whose disability meant he required lots of assistance, such as helping him eat. With an Inky Dinky Saddle, the child was safe and secure to be riding the horse without anyone needing to hold him in position as the horse went along. Over time, motion of the horse increased his core strength and amongst many things he was able to feed himself without help!
We don’t believe that a disability should keep your child from experiencing the joy that comes from horse riding, and the bond that is created between the horse and your child. We are proud to help develop their confidence, independence and to help bring a smile to their face through our range of Inky Dinky Saddles.
As specialists in horse saddles for kids, we are dedicated to providing you with excellent customer service and the best quality horse saddle for your child, to give you peace of mind and help your child develop their riding ability. The Inky Dinky Saddle is available in Leather and Synthetic materials in a range of colours and sizes. To contact us please fill out our online form to get in touch today.
]]>Improved Balance and Coordination
For very young children, getting into their pony saddle will teach them to sit upright. As the horse moves, your child’s motor function will be actively working to find the perfect balance on the horse. These constant slight adjustments also improve their coordination.
In fact, horse riding so significantly supports and improves the balance and coordination of children, equine therapy is a popular activity for people with cerebral palsy.
Encourages Responsibility and Respect
For young children, having responsibility for another living creature and showing them respect is a really important life lesson that will remain with them in scenarios outside of riding. Horse riding for children also encourages discipline, compassion and kindness.
Supports Confidence and Self Esteem
Sitting in their children’s saddle on an animal more than 4 times their size can be really empowering for kids. Learning and mastering new skills is also a really positive and rewarding experience for children, in which their self-esteem can take a big boost.
Promotes Great Riding Technique as they Grow
When it comes to learning, children’s minds are like sponges to new information and new techniques, since they have no pre-existing bad habits getting in the way. By learning to horse ride early, they can naturally and easily develop a beautiful style that can continue to improve as they grow.
At Inky Dinky Saddle, our kids’ saddles are designed with position and posture in mind. In order to support balance and promote a great posture from a very young age, the children’s saddles don’t require the child to grip with the legs to stay in place, enabling the rider to relax with the pony.
It’s Great Exercise and Great Fun!
In a world dominated by technology, horse riding is a safe haven from sitting in front of a screen. It is an activity that is as good for the physical health of children as it is for their mental wellbeing. Being able to enjoy physical activity in the great outdoors is so important for children to learn, and horse riding is the perfect opportunity to introduce it.
There you have it; just five benefits that horse riding offers young children – and it is by no means an exhaustive list. For many parents, their child’s safety is the main reservation for horse riding at a young age. At Inky Dinky Saddles, we have developed a children’s saddle to combat this. ]]>For more than 10 years, Inky Dinky Saddles have been designing and producing kids’ saddles. It is something that, as a family, we absolutely love and are really proud of. Here, we want to share how it all began.
In essence, Inky Dinky Saddles was born out of a love for horses. I had been working with horses for over 30 years, being involved in saddles and their design for the last 17. When our daughter Maggie was born, I hoped that she would take to horses as I had, although I had decided she wouldn’t have a pony until she was old enough to understand the ‘rules’ of riding.
A New Addition to the Family – Dinky
Our adventurous and ever-curious daughter Maggie would no longer be the newest member of our little family. Maggie’s godmother Sarah gave us a wonderfully lovable pony called Dinky. From the moment Dinky moved into our paddock, Maggie was in love. Aged just 2 years, she would relentlessly ask to be able to ride Dinky.
I couldn’t help but be thrilled by her instant love of horses, something that we have shared ever since. Very soon after Dinky arrived, I began searching for a child-friendly saddle. I desperately wanted to find a child’s saddle that would keep our little Maggie safe and secure, whilst holding her in a position that would support a good riding posture as she grew.
There were no children’s saddles that ticked all of the boxes – so something had to be done.
The Inky Dinky Saddles Solution
With the help of my husband Doug, we set to work on a children’s saddle that was designed specifically to keep even very young children safe and secure, encourage a great posture, confidence on the horse and could be adapted as the child grows.
Well, we are pleased to report that we managed it and Maggie, along with thousands more children over the years, was able to find joy in horse riding.
A Unique Design for Kids’ Saddles
What exactly does an Inky Dinky Saddle offer? Lots! The treeless design of the Inky Dinky Saddle means it offers a great fit for ponies of every size and shape, the saddle is easily adjustable for your growing child, it holds children securely in the saddle and supports a relaxed position; this also means that your child can ride without assistance which will encourage their confidence.
We had the absolute joy of watching Maggie take to horse riding like a dream with the help of an Inky Dinky Saddle. Now that she’s 13, we take great happiness in hearing how Inky Dinky Saddles have helped our customers all over the UK. We hope that it will help your little ones too! Treeless
The Inky Dinky Saddle is treeless. The treeless feature is perfect for kids’ saddles for a number of reasons. A treeless saddle is lightweight and flexible meaning it can be easily transferred to different horses and ponies. It is also more comfortable for children to ride with a treeless saddle.
Safety
The unique design of our pony and horse saddles is guaranteed to keep your child safely and securely in the saddle whilst they are riding. This is particularly beneficial for very young children whose balance isn’t quite controlled!
Position
You can be sure that Inky Dinky Saddles have thought of everything when it comes to our kids’ saddles. For those who ride already, you will know the importance of position and posture. Our horse saddles for children have been designed in such a way that they will not need to grip with their legs. This encourages the rider to relax and naturally gain great posture in the process.
Confidently Independent
Since our kids’ saddles a so secure, even very young children won’t require assistance whilst they are riding. Trusting that your child is safe in their independent riding, they can quickly become comfortable with being alone on the horse and gain confidence along the way.
Handle
The Inky Dinky Saddle is designed to continually improve your child’s form, ready for when they move to a non-specialist saddle. The handle on our pony saddle gives extra balance and security and prevents the kids from pulling on the rein to keep upright.
Adjustable
An Inky Dinky Saddle isn’t like a pair of shoes that need replacing each time your child grows. Instead, the memory foam pommel and cantle are adjustable to accommodate your growing child.
There you have it; six reasons why thousands of people have invested in an Inky Dinky Saddle for their children. We are really proud of our children’s saddles and we are sure that you and your little ones will love it just as much as we do. To learn more about our kids’ saddles, get in touch with the team!
